On 23 April 2020, a construction site was handed over to the contractor of a project called “Modernisation of Świnoujście – Szczecin waterway to the depth of 12.5 metres”, with participation of representatives of the employer, the contractor and the contract engineer.

The main objective of the project is to modernise Świnoujście-Szczecin waterway by way of dredging the waterway to 12.5 metres on a section of ca. 62 km, with its simultaneous widening to 100 metres and, among other things, redevelopment of banks, dredging and widening of ship rotators and construction of two artificial islands on the Szczecin Lagoon. Dredging of the waterway to 12.5 metres will allow increasing the maximum admissible loaded draught of vessels reaching Szczecin, to ca. 11 metres.

SWS Law Firm, from the beginning of contract execution (starting from the stage of tendering procedure, up to the stage of design and build) has been providing legal services to the employer and representing the Maritime Authority in Szczecin in this strategic investment for West Pomeranian ports, and for the economy and safety of Poland.

The value of the project, co-financed from EU funds, amounts to PLN 1.4 billion. The project is expected to be completed in 2022.
